Program Description
Primary malignant brain tumors remain one of the most challenging human tumors to treat. The infiltrative nature of these lesions present even at the time of initial diagnosis intellectually defies the concept of a complete resection. Nonetheless, the role of surgical intervention has evolved as techniques progress and clinical studies have attempted to examine the contribution of surgical procedures to survival in patients with malignant glioma. The decision to proceed with surgical resection versus biopsy or subtotal resection remains an area of active debate.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant should be able to:
1.
Analyze study findings regarding extent of resection and survival benefit.
2.
Describe the data concerns related to research on resection of glioblastoma.
